Racing Engine Oils
AMSOIL synthetic racing engine oils are engineered for competition and high-performance engines operating under extreme heat, high RPM and severe loads. Purpose-designed formulations provide exceptional wear protection, maintain lubricant strength under demanding conditions and help protect highly stressed engine components.

AMSOIL Synthetic Racing Engine Oils
Competition engines can place extreme demands on their lubricants. High engine speeds, increased cylinder pressures, elevated temperatures and sustained operation at maximum output create an environment where controlling friction and protecting highly stressed components are critical.
AMSOIL racing engine oils are developed specifically for competition and high-performance applications, with specialised formulations including DOMINATOR Synthetic Racing Oil, Extreme Power products and application-specific racing lubricants.
Engine Oil Designed Around Competition
A dedicated racing oil is not simply a premium road-car oil with a different label. Competition engines can use modified valvetrains, increased bearing loads, altered clearances, high spring pressures, forced induction, specialised fuels and operating speeds far beyond those encountered in normal road use.
Racing lubricants can therefore be formulated around the priorities of competition engines rather than the broad requirements placed on modern passenger-car oils for fuel economy, emissions-system compatibility and long road-service intervals.
Protection Under Extreme Load
Maintaining a protective lubricant film becomes increasingly important as engine loads and temperatures rise. Racing oils must resist viscosity loss while protecting bearings, cylinder walls, valvetrain components and other highly stressed surfaces throughout competition.
Mechanical shear can permanently reduce the viscosity of an oil during service, particularly in demanding applications. Learn more about viscosity stability and why it matters in our guide to stay-in-grade engine oil performance.
Zinc and Racing Engine Protection
Some competition engines use valvetrain designs and component loads that benefit from elevated levels of anti-wear additives such as zinc and phosphorus. However, high-zinc oil should be selected according to engine design and application rather than assuming that more zinc automatically makes an oil better.
Our guide to high-zinc engine oil and ZDDP explains how these additives protect highly loaded surfaces, why flat-tappet engines can have particular lubrication requirements and how those requirements differ from many modern production engines.
Racing Oil vs Road-Car Oil
A lubricant optimised for competition is not automatically the best choice for a daily-driven road vehicle. Racing engines and production vehicles can have very different requirements for emissions-system compatibility, service intervals, deposit control and operating conditions.
Select racing oil according to the engine builder's requirements, engine configuration, fuel, operating conditions and intended service rather than viscosity alone.
