Andrew Handmer
Engineering Pace, Not Just Horsepower
A Different Approach to Going Fast
Andrew Handmer has a long history with Nissan's S13 platform and SR20 engine, having built and campaigned a succession of deceptively simple, exceptionally quick Silvias over the years. A robotics mechanic by trade and motorsport engineer by passion, Andrew has earned a reputation for approaching engineering problems differently, developing clever and unconventional solutions rather than simply reaching for the most expensive option.
His current SX Developments Sil80 continues that philosophy. At its heart is a relatively mild SR20 producing around 360 kW — substantial power by traditional race-car standards, but remarkably restrained compared with many contemporary Time Attack builds. Rather than relying on outright horsepower, the car's performance comes from development across the complete package.
A bespoke aerodynamic package is complemented by custom blade-style anti-roll bars and an extensively modified ex-NASCAR transmission that Andrew originally purchased in pieces. It is an unusual collection of components, engineered into a cohesive and highly competitive circuit car.
The results speak for themselves. At the former Wakefield Park circuit, Andrew recorded a 1:00.00 lap — remarkably achieved on a thoroughly used set of second-hand slick tyres.
