Choosing the Right Diesel Engine Oil
Diesel engines place substantial demands on their lubricants. High cylinder pressures, heat, soot and extended periods under load can accelerate oil degradation and increase the importance of wear protection, deposit control and viscosity stability. The correct diesel engine oil must combine a suitable viscosity grade with the performance specifications required for the engine and its emissions-control equipment.

Diesel Oil Specifications Matter
As with petrol engine oils, viscosity alone does not determine whether a lubricant is suitable. Diesel engines may require particular API diesel classifications, ACEA specifications or manufacturer-specific approvals depending on the engine, model year and emissions system. Modern diesel oils may also need to operate effectively with equipment such as diesel particulate filters and exhaust after-treatment systems.

Protection Under Load
Diesel engines used for towing, commercial work and heavy equipment can operate for long periods under high load. During these conditions, the oil must maintain sufficient viscosity and film strength while resisting oxidation, deposits and permanent viscosity loss.
